I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been getting piles of spam recently, with pages being created purportig to advertise all kinds of crap like lost car keys, double glazing, mobility scooters and sectional sofas, possibly with links to further content that I am not really interested in. I want to keep my wiki open to others to contribute to. It is used by several schools in the area, and so I do not want links to dodgy content. It would be, IMHO, a good idea if someone was to write a simple guide as to how to put up a CAPCHA barrier to new user sign-ups, so as to stop this plague of spam posting which is getting tiresome to delete. 2A00:23C5:CE3D:6D01:FDED:3EEB:D628:C7B2 04:18, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but who are you? SuperStreetKombat (talk) 9:26, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- CAPTCHAs aren't massively effective these days in the era of AI and mechanical turking. There are a few external CAPTCHA-esque services you can opt to use that are slightly more effective, but there are privacy considerations to take with those. In fact, for a charity site I run, I get at least three spam emails a day (again, through a CAPTCHA-ed form) offering me "CAPTCHA solving software" with all of the big-name CAPTCHA solutions, and I don't doubt that the software exists (even if not that particular one they're selling) --Lewis Cawte (talk) 21:09, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
