Hi. I have been interested in managing a MediaWiki site 100% on my own for about 3 months now. Unfortunately, I cannot find a free host that allows complete user control of settings and extensions. Upon looking at the vacancies page, those requirements seem rather loose, and I figure that there has to be a catch somewhere. Is there any experience/age restriction to apply for staff positions? Or can you just create a user account, create a personal wiki, and then apply right away? IP address removed AmandaQuad (talk) 03:28, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- The catch is that we'll only bring people on board we feel we can trust, are sufficiently experienced in the fields we're asking for - not necessarily the task, for example if we're looking for a Social Tools developer we'll look for someone with some proven skill in either MediaWiki or PHP+MySQL. --Lewis Cawte (talk) 12:04, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- Well, I can already use GitHub to a fairly professional degree. Does that count in having experience in MediaWiki? Also note that I am not looking for a specific position, such as social tools developer. As noted above, MediaWiki doesn't have any free hosting services that allow you to fully manage your own wiki. Therefore, I would request a general staff position, and, in addition to helping out with Hub stuff, I would also be running my own wiki at the same time. - By the way, can someone please oversight my IP address above? Thanks. AmandaQuad (talk) 22:37, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
