How do bots work ? Hockeyben (talk) 17:41, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- Bots are basically programs that run automated (usually repetitive) tasks. See this page for information about a specific bot program (pywikipedia). PinkyTalk 23:08, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Problem with template coordination[edit source]
I have a problem with template box converge to categories at the bottom of article too much. I tried putting <br> tags after the template in both template page and article, but it didn't work. How can I force the template to move higher? EruannoAthreathadan (talk) 12:17, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, I believe I've fixed this problem, does it look better now? --PinkyTalk 22:15, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, it does look better, but the problem is that templates push towards category on whole wikia, not just that article. Can you tell me of way to move template up myself so you don't have to edit whole wikia?
By the way sorry for late feedback, I didn't have the time to go on my wikia lately. :D EruannoAthreathadan (talk) 19:54, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Question and suggestion[edit source]
Sorry for the generic title :) I have chosen to contact you because you were the one who created Shoutwiki's wiki creation tool.
- First, the suggestion: that you add a generic MediaWiki:Edittools to new wikis (although it doesn't need to be as complete as Wikipedia's). I haven't had any problems adding my own, but many new users may not be so knowledgeable. Or they might even not know about that Mediawiki feature, unless they come from Wikipedia/Wikia/etc.
- Second, the question: I miss a very handy Wikia-made extension called Link Suggest, which auto-completes wikilinks within the edit box. I've also been able to locate a (somewhat) similar tool on Wikipedia, but since that is a user-generated script, and I'm not fully able to understand the code, I don't feel confident using it. Do you think you (the staff, I mean) could develop/port this functionality for Shoutwiki? It was really useful on Wikia.
Thank you in advance. Scarbrowtalk 00:39, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Extra details: I contacted Wikia staff and they pointed me to the repository. It's available under the GPL. I don't know if more details (besides the standard Extensions manual) is needed, but I have asked for further details. I hope it's useful and you're able to install it. Scarbrowtalk 09:14, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Further details: Unfortunately there are no specific instructions to install it. The standard procedure should work, but it also requires YahooUI Library. Furthermore, they told me about two (loosely) related extensions, although they really can't compare with the Wikia one. Scarbrowtalk 01:17, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Invited user to private Wiki, but he does not see how to enter.[edit source]
Hello, I have invited a user, AAllard to SEE.Elec.Tech private wiki. He has a validated email and a user account. He did receive an email saying that he had been invited to the wiki, but it does not appear on his My Wikis list when he logs on. What should he do to gain access to the wiki?
Thanks, R Laird

My private wiki is gone... yikes![edit source]
Hi, (I love shoutwiki!) The private wiki I've been using for, oh... 1 or 2 or 3 years disappeared. Yikes! It is gatsby.shoutwiki.com. I noticed that the shoutwiki home page was down for about a minute. I tried logging out, logging back in, closing my browser, reopening my broswer... nothing. My username (I think the only permission on it) is a*****y. (It seems I am not logged in now. I've been logging in and out... Thanks! 69.91.141.114 18:38, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there,
- Your wiki is not gone, so fear not! We're in the progress of upgrading the sites to MediaWiki 1.27, the latest stable version of the wiki software, but this is turning out to be a bit of a bumpy ride due to all the various architectural changes involved; as such, there are currently some bugs involving user rights (and by extension things that require specific rights, such as viewing/editing a private wiki, which requires you to have the
read
/edit
rights, respectively) as well as the login/logout process. Rest assured that we're working hard to have these issues resolved as soon as possible! --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 19:09, 15 August 2016 (UTC)- Thanks a million. I was hoping it was something like that. If there is a status page (other than my private wiki homepage) that I should check, please let me know. Thanks, again. 173.250.139.85 20:06, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
